After rethinking the idea of modern zoo or zoo of the future we decided to change our project a little bit.
After reading huge amount of texts about holding animals in captivity we got some conclusion:
*It is almost impossible to invent new method for urban zoo,
becuase existing rules are being developed during years by zoologist and they based on understanding of law in nature, which are hard to change at once
*Most of texts and existing modern examples mark up these rules that we mentioned before.
*Rise of pollution in big cities will cause animals more life difficult.
What we want to do now is to come back to first ideas of zoo, evolution theory and genetics.
The idea is to design urban zoo of the future which will be DNA MUSEUM - with holographic exhibits.
We believe that this way of showing nature, through recently popular topic - genetics(genetic engineering) will give new interest to this topic.
This idea could be accepted by people who are against keeping wild animals in captivity.

doubts
"Could you specify the findings you made in contemporary zoo ideas?"
1) Visitors path should be systematized in a way that does not make them confused.(Hence we are trying to create one optimal path that influences shape of buildings).
2) Mixing species as much as it is possible, but one must remember about habits, what eat what, climate they use to live in, time activity, etc.
3) Rotation exhibits - making groups of animals with similar environmental requirements and swapping them within few paddocks during day or week
4) Our (small) idea is arranging exhibitions along the visitors path due to evolution order.
"Also, how will your rhinoscript inform yourproject further then beeing a terrain modeling tool?
Does it also affect the architecture design?
Do you have a design strategy for the architecture?"
The rhino definition that we are constructing is creating initial shape of buildings(pavillions).
The idea of this definition is to creat fluent mass that is shaped according to the paths
Later on we are going to divide this initial state into enclosed or opened structures.
Till now, our final idea was to make footbridge(corridor) for visitors elevated where it is needed
(for example to watch giraffs at level of their heads or watch different animals from above).
This part will be made in rhino as fluent spline going through specified points.
"The Images now on the blog suggest a method of zoos that seems outdated
to me, as it indicates specific areas of climate instead of understanding the biosphere as a sytem under the constant
influence of intensive forces....how do this forces shape architectural conception?"
As climate driving forces we understand sun, wind, rain etc. If You ment the same aspects, we must admit that we thought about using them.
but for zoo design we were trying to find rules that are only specific for zoo. As a biosphere system do You have in mind something like "biosphere II" project?
If You want to encourage us to start thinking about creating architecture in terms of doing, for example, sun or wind analysis,
our idea is that maybe this should be rethinked "from inside".
For example: normally we design super efficient shape of skyscraper to minimize wind force hitting facade or optimalize sun exposure.
Our situation is that we have spatial arrangement and we have to create best conditions inside, so maybe we should try to figure out some intelligent skin(?).
We still need to have some thing cleared out...
We have seen that most of projects done with students are inspired with natural objects like flowers or leafs,
do You expect us as well to find something in nature that will suit our project?

propositions for the zoo profile
1. Branded zoo - zoo with a endangered species.
Zoo that will attract people seeking for something rare and unique.
As we were trying to remodel of zoo inhabitants profile, we came to idea, that nowadays people look for something different than traditional, boring zoo. We live in times of YouTube and sensations, people expect thrill and excitement. This idea is very simple: all species are to be endangered, that should add excitement of intercourse with animals that are probably one of the least of their kind.
PROGRAM:
- creation of animal’s natural environment
- muliti species exhibits according to climate/ natural conditions/ food/ surrounding
ADVANTAGES:
- unique experience for people – thay can not see all those endangered species living in a wild
DISADVANTAGES:
- collecting big number of endangered species could be problematic
2. Experimantal zoo.
PROGRAM:
- muliti species exhibits according to global warming climate changes
- experiment: how different species will live and survive in warmer climat than their natural one / changes in small steps
- arrangement of species in their natural surounding with a possibility of change the surrounding – animal’s choice (eg. penguin can move from his natural cold surounding to warmer one, where, normally, live different species)
- “Mixed Species Rotation Exhibits” – is an integrated management and facility design strategy which allows animals to move sequentially between two or more interconnected display and off-display areas for the purpose of increasing available space and behavioral opportunities for the animals. Resulting increases in appropriate animal behavior and activity should improve visitor interest and satisfaction. from “Mixed Species Rotation Exhibits” by Jon Coe
ADVANTAGES:
- new approach – new evolution changes caused artificially
DISADVANTAGES:
- changes that we expect can be long-lasting processes
3(additional). Holographic zoo/pavilion/room
PROGRAM:
- creation of holographic pavilion where people can enter animal’s natural life (eg. people can run within herd of antelopes that escape from predator)
ADVANTAGES:
- people can easily identify with animals
- it can be an additional entertainment
DISADVANTAGES:
- it is not real
SUMMARY
Even if we will choose first, second or both options, we want to design a zoo with multi species exhibits.
Conditions (script criteria):
- Climate / humidity, temperature, air-pressure, wind, precipitation
- Environment / relief, water - land configuration, hight above sea level
- Time activity / day, night, 24-hour
- Life activity / predators, rodents, lizards, cats, scavengers, mursupials, herbivorous, dogs...
